Phone Review: iPhone 3GS Black 16 Gigs Model
After having the generation one iPhone for quite some time now, the new Apple iPhone 3GS Black, 16 Gigs Model was finally released in the market. The 3G feature was an excellent bonus for me since living in New York City; I have the perk of accessing the 3G network for the most part of the city. I do not have access to the internet at home so my iPhone is very useful for me. I use it mainly to check my Gmail at home and also to delete the annoying spam comments posted to my blog site.
Having the new iPhone 3G Black for more than a week now, I thought I should share some insights to my avid readers regarding the new gadget. Let me tell you, the 3G network is a lot faster and more user-friendly. You can access youtube.com straight from your iPhone and download the latest hits from Pandora.com as well. The Edge network of the original iPhone was a hit or miss kind of feature. Either you will be able to play the music video or you won’t. Sometimes, even if you could play it, it will play for a few seconds, and then stop for a couple of minutes before continuing again. So instead of enjoying the feed, you get frustrated by it. This is not the case when using 3G network. The feeds in youtube can be enjoyed non-stop.
I am quite fond of surfing Testosterone Nation over the internet. The Edge network allows me to view the page but the loading time is ridiculously slow. When I go to the website, I click the page and go do something else just so my time is not wasted. Every click to a sub-page requires the same slow loading process. However, on the 3G network, I can finally view the website to my heart’s content. I access it to increase my fitness awareness. Loading time only takes 10 to 15 seconds. How great is that!
Other wow factor that the phone has is its ability to download pictures from the websites straight to the camera roll. I do not know how useful this feature is aside from making me use the photo of Suicide Girls as my wallpaper, other than that I don’t think I’ll use this feature much. Nevertheless, it is still cool. It is also being considered more affordable to buy it on ebay in bulks of five since you seem to get a lot more discounts in price in the long run of computations.
Now, let us discuss the down side. My new iPhone 3G is relatively slow in following commands and a bit crashy. I have mentioned that I am an owner of the iPhone 3G for more than a week, but it crashed on me at least 10 times already. Also, the casing seemed to have downgraded. The generation one iPhone has a sleek metal casing, while the 3G version only has a plastic backing.
There are no real application improvements done in this version as far as I’m concerned. In fact, when you add in the slow response time and the crashing factor, then you get worse existing applications compared to the original one.
If your main use of your phone is to access your email and view your favorite sites, then it’s the best purchase you can get rather than getting a notebook. It is a lot handier and a lot cheaper than buying a laptop. But when it comes to phone features, it is not up to standards. Better stick with your generation one iPhone.
